Lancashire students go green with SCRIB!

Pupils across Lancashire started the summer by going green, as the winners of the ‘Be Green and Grow’ workshops took part in a series of recycling workshops led by SCRIB, the Steel Can Recycling Information Bureau.

The schools, Rosewood Primary School in Burnley, Fishwick Primary School in Preston, St Mary’s Primary School in Great Eccleston and St Mark’s Primary School in Wigan, all participated in the workshops; in which children from Year 3 to year 6 were asked to think about the journey made by one steel can, from the recycling box to the recycling facility, and back to a new steel object. Another school, Thurnham Primary in Lancaster, will also have a workshop in September.

SCRIB officers Jonathan Welsh and Kelly Allan hosted the sessions, which were part of each school’s prize for winning Be Green and Grow. Jonathan commented: “SCRIB workshops are always in high demand and it’s been a very busy year for us. We were thrilled to support the Be Green and Grow campaign and it was easy to see why each school had been successful. The pupils were bright and engaged with the workshops, and we incorporated science experiments, interactive quizzes and DVDs into the workshops. It was, however, the pupils who made the workshops such a success and it is obvious that each of the schools are true green ambassadors for Lancashire.”
